Why We Simplified Our Product Line (and What That Means for You)

If you've been shopping with Lilac Earth for a while, you might've noticed that things look a little... simpler lately.

We've streamlined.

Fewer blushes. Fewer color correctors. Fewer eyeshadows. Fewer sample sizes. And yes, fewer foundation shades (though still inclusive and flexible).

This wasn't random, and it definitely wasn't easy. But it was 100% necessary.

🥣 1. We're a tiny team (like... really tiny).

Lilac Earth isn’t backed by warehouses or full-time staff. It’s a small, independent business built with care, long hours, and a whole lot of intention. Every product takes time, energy, and attention to detail to formulate, label, and ship.

At one point, we were managing nearly 100 eyeshadow shades. That alone could have been a full-time job. And we already had those!

We’re simplifying so we can grow sustainably, with the long-term goal of creating meaningful, fairly paid local jobs as we expand. Because building a beauty brand should also mean building good work.

💡 2. We want to focus on what actually serves you.

Instead of spreading ourselves thin across dozens of low-volume products, we're doubling down on the ones you love most:

  • The shades that consistently sell
  • The formulas that perform
  • The things that make your mornings easier and your makeup bag happier

🧠 3. More room for custom blends.

Another reason we trimmed down the foundation range? To open up more space for one-on-one custom blending.

I've been creating custom blends for a long time, and I genuinely love it. I'm good at it, and I enjoy working closely with people to help them find their perfect match.

This shift means I can put more focus on personalized service — not just a million listings.

🍷 4. Sample sizes were burning us out.

We know samples are helpful. But when we did the math, they just weren’t sustainable. The time and cost to produce single tiny jars (especially for Etsy orders) added up fast — and left us overwhelmed, behind, and underpaid.

So now? You can still try before you commit, but only in curated sample sets (2- or 4-piece bundles, depending on the site).

That helps us stay sane — and still lets you test shades at home.

🧾 5. Less clutter, more clarity.

Fewer choices = fewer overwhelm spirals.

We want shopping with us to feel fun and focused, not like choosing from a 50-shade paint deck. A tighter lineup makes it easier to find your perfect match, faster.

💸 6. Prices: yes, some of them have gone up.

You may have also noticed that some product prices have increased a bit. That wasn’t done lightly.

Now that we’ve got solid historical data, we reviewed our pricing with real profit margins in mind. And... yikes. The margins weren’t where they needed to be — not even close.

If we kept going that way, Lilac Earth would’ve run us straight into the ground.

So we made some necessary changes. Because honestly?

If we’re not building this to thrive in the long run, what’s the point of succeeding at all?

Running on empty, just to say we did it, is a one-way ticket to burnout and bankruptcy. No thanks.

❤️ So what does this mean for you?

  • ✅ Your favorite shades are probably still here (and if they’re not, they might return someday)
  • ✅ Our formulas haven’t changed. Just the number of listings
  • ✅ Shopping should feel faster, clearer, and less overwhelming
  • ✅ Prices are aligned with long-term sustainability
  • ✅ More personal, custom-blend foundation support is now available

Thanks for being part of this journey with us.

Lilac Earth is growing, and that means making choices that support sustainability — not just for the planet, but for the people behind the brand (hi, that’s me and my husband).

If you have questions or need help picking the right shade, reach out anytime. We’re still right here for you.

With love and mineral dust,

Kathy & Tim
